Western Sydney Airport Metro Tunnel

LSHF, VFD/EMC & Rubber Cable Supply

The Western Sydney Airport metro tunnel required fire-safe LSHF cabling throughout the tunnel structure and purpose-built VFD/EMC cable for the ventilation fan motor circuits. The project specified LSHF throughout — TROPAC supplied Top Cable's TOXFREE® ZH range, which carries European CPR fire classification at Cca-s1a,d1,a1 level.

CPR is not an Australian standard requirement, but it provided the project team with independently verified, internationally benchmarked fire performance well above what local standards alone require.

The ventilation fans are variable frequency drive controlled, requiring full electromagnetic screening on all motor cables. With most VFD cable on the market using PVC construction, and most LSHF cable lacking EMC screening, the project needed a single cable that met both requirements simultaneously.
